-VARADARAJA" (SwarabhUshani)
Oh Varadar?ja! Worshipped by Devas, Munis and
Brahmans! I have come here seeking you, having had dar1-sana of your Garuda Seva; 1 prostrate before you. Your
place (Hastigiri) is considered to be Vaikuntham itself and
is beyond all description. You shine among the Devas
like the moon among the stars

varada rAja ninu - swara bhooshaNi - roopakam

In this kruti Tyagaraja praises and worships Varada Raja Swamy of Kancheepuram. He says that celestials and sages yearn to serve him

Oh Lord Varadaraja,I've come to seek your blessings.I prostrate before you.
AP Celestial beings, sages and priests circumambulate you and pray.
C 1
It is beyond my capacity to praise your heavenly abode Varagiri. You shine among sages like the moon amidst countless stars. I've come to witness your grand Garuda (eagle) vahana procession. You are worshipped by Tyagaraja.

  • O Bestower of boons! O Lord who is fond of fresh butter! O Excellent Lord who destroyed the arrogance of the demons!

  • O Lord who resembles rain-cloud! O Lord who wields arrows in His hands! O Wind that blows away clouds called demons! O Father of Cupid! O Lord bereft of desires!

  • O Lord who has a wonderful gait like that of an elephant! O Lord praised by Lord Siva! O Lord wearing lustrous ornaments! O Lord who is best in protecting celestials! O Lord who has garuDa as carrier which moves fast! O Lord who has conquered (the minds of) the blessed eminent devotees by his splendour! O Bestower of boons to this tyAgarAja!

"VINAYAKUNI VALENU" (Madhyamavati)
Oh Sri Kamakshi! Protector of the forlorn! Pray, bless
me as you would do Vin?yaka, your own son! Which other
God can do this except you ? When you are there to grant
boons even to the worst of human beings, Brahmans and
devatas should not find themselves in distress. Should you
notshow mercy? In response to Brahma's pleading for the
sake of humanity, you have incarnated in the world in a
benign and s?tvic form. If you delay still, I connot bear.
Let your kind words go to me and bless me.

VENKATESA NINU? (Madhyamavati)

Oh Venkatesa who has taken abode on Seshichala and
in the hearts of yogis! One should have myriad eyes to see
you in glory with such a beautiful r?pam. You are prai-
sed on all sides that you are the highest of the deities ; your
mere darsana will surely secure salvation for those who pine
with devotion for you. As probably the result of some
meritorious deed of mine, [have tasted the nectar of thy
sweet name and have thus secured astepping stone to
reach you, whose feet shine with incomparable brilliance.

TERA TIYAGA RADA" (Gowlipantu)

Oh Tirupati Venkataramana! Supreme Being! Could
you not remove the screen of anger, arrogance and jealousy,
which, taking a firm stand within me, keeps me out of the
reach of Dharma and other purushArthas including mO?ksha?

As the effect of this screen I am in the position of a hungry
fish that gets ruined by grasping the bait in the angle.

effectively hides from vision the immaculate light of the
Lamp (10879)

l  am in the plight of one who, while happily
taking his dinner, gets a fly (ajn?na) stuck in his throat.

This screen creates confusion in me, as in the case of aman,
who, while engaged in worship, allows his mind to wander
over the chandalas? quarters.

 By the existence of this  screen, my mind gets caught by evil, just as ignorant beasts   are got in the hunter's net.
I have been following you faithfully. (Pray promptly
remove the screen).

O Lord SrI lakshmI narasiMha! O Supremely Holy Lord! O My Guardian! O Lord well-praised by this tyAgarAja!

  • Deign to protect me.
  • I shall not flatter worthless people.

    • That day, You protected prahlAda – most eminent of Your devotees, who, unable to tolerate a dispute with (his father) hiraNya kaSipu, sought Your refuge and asked You to help Him.

    • What for shall I forbear? What is not known to Your mind?
    • I do not know as to how much compassion You would show towards me for having sought You, being unable to bear vilification by people.

  • Please show mercy consentingly by granting (opportunity for) chanting Your names, Your remembrance, worship of Your holy feet and company of Your devotees.
  • It is not in my capacity any longer.

  • O Lord SrI nArasiMha! O Beloved of lakshmI!

  • O Reliever of distress of the humble! O Lord of Auspicious qualities! O Sun who destroyed the darkness called hiraNya kaSipu! O three Eyed!

  • O Sun who blossoms the lotus of hearts of prahlAda, and sages parASara and nArada! O Lord who causes joy! O Lord who destroys vicious diseases! O Bestower of boons! O Lord praised by tyAgarAja and others!

    • Please protect me.

PÁHI RAMA DUTA” (Vasanta Varali)

Oh Ràma's Messenger! Bless me. You have crossed
the ocean and killed Ravana’s son, (Akshayakumara) Your

Bhakta Mahatmya 153

lotus-like face shines like the fully risen sun. You are as
brilliant as myriad suns. You hold the blessed feet of Sri
Rama in your hands. You are the wind to disperse the
cloud of the sins of the iron age. You are like Agastya to
the ocean of dreaded R&akshasas. You always carry out
(successfully) whatever task is assigned to you. Oh! Dweller
under the Párijàta tree! You move as fast as the wind.
You conquer evil spirits by the strength of your feet. You
are the redeemer of sinners. You are well-versed in
the Vedas and SAstras. You are the best of beings; you
are the pure-minded- You are full-of compassion. You
have a body which resembles in hue Mount Meru. You
are the foremost among the Lord’s devotees. You are a
giver of boons.

O Mother - Consort of Lord Siva – kAyArOhaNa!
O Mother nIlAyatAkshi stationed at the holy town of nAga puram! O Witness of all Worlds!
O Supremely holy!

Is fate so binding?

In this World, even though the rich (people) are sought, they could not relieve my pitiable condition;
therefore, having quickly set out, coming here (to this town), I reached Your holy presence;

yet, is fate so binding (that You would not show compassion)?

Lord of Ocean, becoming arrogant, tried to intrude into this land;
seeing You - endowed with bravery, always standing resolutely – he beheld You;

yet, is fate so binding (that the sea would enter into the land)?

My mind has no desire for money;
I have convinced my mind that Your grace alone is (real) wealth;
therefore, I have come to Your holy presence with fond hope;

yet, is fate so binding for this tyAgarAja – Your true devotee (that You would not show compassion)?

Meaning:
Who understands your glory? In this world, in the beautiful NAgapura (NAgapaTTinam), having seen even a fraction of your powers, O NIlAyatAkshi!
Wearing precious golden ornaments, beautifully holding in hand the parrot, abundantly wearing the celestial PArijAta tree's flowers on your head, making Hara dance hither and thither, who can understand such play of yours?
Seeing Hari, Brahma, and others worshipping you, decked with flowers, women in groups gracefully standing by, the celestial damsels dancing and worshipping you, your compassion flowing profusely, who can understand your grace?
O Consort of Paramashiva! Adorned with serpent. Barring you, who else is the refuge?
O NIlavEni! O PArvati! The fortune of the devotees. One who forever loves TyAgarAja's words, who understands your glory?
